Echocardiography for the Critical Care Physician
Upcoming Dates for Echocardiography for the Critical Care Physician
Suitable applicants
The program is designed for medical professionals working in the critical care setting. No previous echo experience is necessary, however the course assumes a prior knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and haemodynamics.
Program design
ECCP is a hands-on training program held at Cardiac Concepts in Carnegie, in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The program is designed to facilitate the diagnosis and management of patients in the critical care setting. With a focus on developing the practical skills of echocardiography, ECCP is delivered with a combination of face to face skill development sessions, online units and independent workplace scanning. The hands-on sessions are coupled with tutorials and case reviews to develop skills and confidence in using transthoracic echocardiography in the critical care setting.
Units 1 & 2 are available online with an initial work place scanning requirement of 20 hours and both these components are to be completed in the 4 weeks prior to this course. This is then followed by 3 full days in a small capacity classroom setting where hands-on skills are the focus. This intimate class size allows for ample access to our experienced echo tutors and students will practice on normal models and be exposed to pathology via pre-recorded images. A further 20 hours of independent scanning will follow in the 6 weeks after attendance in Carnegie and the program culminates with a final 3 classroom days with the total training time being 78 hours
